IAI, in partnership with the Embassy of Finland in Rome, will organise a conference to discuss the impact of the new US administration on NATO and Europe’s security as well as the outlook by different European allies. Actually the Atlantic alliance is experiencing new internal dynamics, as new members Finland and Sweden bring valuable strengths, a regional outlook on the North and the East, and a long border with Russia now under article 5 obligations. In light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, allies recognise Moscow as the main and most imminent threat to their security, as restated by the 2024 Washington summit. Still a variety of national threat perceptions obviously persists, as well as different priorities regarding the “enlarged Mediterranean” region or the Artic. Against this backdrop, the deep-rooted debate on a NATO 360° approach to Europe’s security may benefit from new perspectives.
