Closed-door roundtable

The Red Sea is a vital artery and a fundamental hub for global trade. Since November 2023, the instability affecting parts of the Middle East has led to Houthi attacks against civilian and merchant vessels transiting the Red Sea. These developments have highlighted the connection between freedom of navigation and the global economy, as well as the region's centrality to Italian interests.

On 11 February 2025, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and in partnership with the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, IAI has organised a closed-door roundtable to discuss the effects of the Middle East crisis on maritime security and the Italian and European economies, as well as Italy's role in this context. The event saw the participation of Italian experts, representatives from the armed forces, public institutions, and countries in the Red Sea region.
