What’s Next for Israel and Palestine after Hamas attack?
The rekindling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict brought about by Hamas’ October 7 attack has already had profound implications on both Israel's domestic politics, with Netanyahu forming a unity government, and on Palestinian politics, as Hamas strives for leadership in the fight against Israel not just amongst Palestinian but also Arab public opinion at large.
At the same time, the US and a number of EU countries, including Italy, have expressed full support to the Israeli government. As shown by the debate on the suspension of European aid to Palestine, Western countries have no clear ideas of how to reconcile their staunch support for Israel with their concerns about the humanitarian costs of the conflict and their stated goal of promoting peace and security not just for Israel but Palestine too.
The Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) is organizing a public webinar on October 16th at 3pm on the ramifications of events on both Israeli and Palestinian politics to help inform the EU debate and its approach towards the unfolding conflict.
