For almost a decade the European Union (EU) has been facing an existential threat. Austerity policies and economic crisis mode have been the new normal and raised questions over whether the Eurozone could survive such a challenge. Today, there are signs of a political and economic recovery. Nevertheless, without prosperity and shared welfare, optimism will not return to the European scene.
