Young Women and Next Generation Initiative - Opportunities, Threats and Proliferation Challenges deriving from Bio-Technology and Bio-Engineering
The International Affairs Institute (IAI) of Rome and the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non Proliferation (VCDNP) will organize the next Young Women and Next Generation Initiative (YWNGI) public webinar event entitled: “Opportunities, Threats and Proliferation Challenges deriving from Bio-Technology and Bio-Engineering” which will be held on 16th January 2023 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Central European Time (CET) via Zoom.
The webinar will feature remarks by Dr Angela Kane, former UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs and Senior Fellow at the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non Proliferation (VCDNP); Dr Filippa Lentzos, Associate Professor in Science & International Security at King’s College London; and Dr James Revill, Head of the WMD and Space Security Programmes at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).
Speakers will explore opportunities, threats and proliferation challenges related to biological agents as well as their governance, with a particular focus on the Biological Weapons Convention. They will also share their personal experience and insights about entering and advancing careers in the non-proliferation and disarmament field with a focus on biological sciences. Following the experts’ remarks, the meeting will be open for questions and comments from the audience.
The webinar is intended for students and young specialists, particularly young women, who are interested in working in international organizations or in taking part in internships, training and capacity building initiatives or engaging in networking and similar programs developed by international organizations.
