The Mediterranean Crisis: Migration Trends from the South

As EU leaders scramble to devise more effective means to counter the tide of migrants crossing the Mediterranean and respond to the humanitarian crisis taking place off Europe’s shores, a new IAI paper analyses past and present trends in youth migration from Arab Mediterranean countries. Published in the framework of the New-Med research network, the paper reviews the typical profile of migrants and assesses the phenomenon in light of the EU’s policy orientation and events unleashed by the Arab uprisings.
