NATO/EU Defence, issues at stake

European governments’ new push to cooperate more effectively on defence and security is already being challenged by the reborn Franco-German alliance (marginalizing Italy) and by Paris and Rome's dispute over the STX shipyards and Libya. While defence integration in the EU risks a slowdown, NATO is facing divisions among Allies, struggling to find consensus on how to stabilize Europe's southern neighbourhood.
