Nexus25 project on the security-climate-migration nexus continues its activities with a conference on 24-25 May in Rome
Nexus25 - Shaping Multilateralism, an international project led by IAI (Istituto Affari Internazionali) in collaboration with the United Nations Foundation, continues its activities with the conference “Rethinking Multilateralism in the face of Complex Crises” to take place on 24-25 May in Rome. The meeting builds on the side event at the Munich Security Conference that launched the project in February, and the roundtable discussion that took place on the sidelines of World Bank-International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings in Washington DC in April.
The Nexus25 conference will kick off on 24 May with a high-level public panel discussion between Arancha González Laya, Dean of Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po, Arif Husain, Chief Economist and Director of the Research, Assessment and Monitoring Division of the World Food Programme, and Cindy McCain, United States Permanent Representative to the UN Agencies in Rome, which will be moderated by Center for American Progress Senior Fellow Michael Werz. Focusing on the global effects of the Ukraine crisis intertwining displacement, food security, and climate risks, the conversation will represent a starting point to unravel the complex nature of crises and their widespread consequences in our interconnected world.
The event will continue on 25 May with a day-long closed-door workshop, aiming to foster knowledge-sharing and debate among a diverse range of stakeholders about multilateral responses to complex crises, with the Sahel and South Asia serving as departure points for discussion. The workshop will bring together international experts, members of civil society, and representatives from international organizations to reflect on the collective action needs generated by complex crises intersecting climate change, insecurity and migration, and to explore promising ways forward to better integrate nexus thinking into multilateral responses.
Nexus25 is funded by Stiftung Mercator, one of the largest private foundations in Germany. Amongst its goals is the promotion of European cohesion and a viable future of multilateral relations.
