Eastern Partnership at 10: the way forward?
The Eastern Partnership turned 10. The European Commission launched in
2019 the structural consultations with multiple stakeholders on the future of the
Eastern Partnership. Intra-institutional process and consultations with the EU
MS are still under way on how to adopt the Eastern Partnership to the domestic
transformations in the partner countries, but also to the changing security
landscape in the region. At the same time, the mission letter addressed to the
Commissioner-designate for neighbourhood and enlargement explicitly
requests the upcoming commissioner “to put forward a new set of long-term
policy objectives for the Eastern Partnership by mid-2020.” This round table
proposes to feed the ongoing reflection process in the EU institutions. Firstly,
it aims to highlight the key achievements of the program and identify trends
which will shape the politics and economics in the EU’s eastern neighbourhood
in the coming decade. Secondly, the debate seeks to identify the lessons to be
learned and generate ideas on how to improve the Eastern Partnership.
