The Steel Industry in Italy and Germany: Between competitiveness and decarbonization

This series of podcasts explore opportunities and challenges for cooperation between Germany and Italy as both countries seek to decarbonise their energy systems while ensuring supply security. It is part of a project entitled An Italian-German Dialogue on Energy Security and Transition amid Russia’s War on Ukraine, which the IAI is undertaking with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office.

In this episode, Pier Paolo Raimondi, Researcher of the Energy, Climate and Resources Programme talk with Alfredo Schweiger, Head of the Technical Department of FEDERACCIAI (the Italian Association of Steel Producers), and Roderik Hömann, Head of the Energy and Climate Policy of Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (the German Steel Association). The conversation focuses on the challenges and opportunities for the steel industry in Italy and Germany in light of the energy crisis and decarbonization.
