La nuova iniziativa europea per lo spazio: Global Monitoring for Environment and Security
This study analyses the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security programme as a part of the European space policy. The first part of the study goes over the developments since the 1980s of the community's space policy and the motivations behind the GMES programme. It then looks at the political and institutional aspects of the initiative, directing particular attention at the role of the actors involved, both national and European. Finally, it delves into two important aspects of the GMES: the creation of a sustainable long-term economic and governance model. The analysis is based on official documents as well as interviews with people involved in the GMES programme. It ends with some future scenarios for the initiative.
