Euro-Mediterranean Study Commission - EuroMeSCo
IAI participates in the activities EuroMeSCo - the euro-Mediterranean network of non-governmental institutions dealing with foreign policy and security.
Between 2015 and 2019, IAI was part of a selected group of 14 member institutes who are conducting a series of research, outreach and dissemination activities for the project “Euro-Mediterranean Political Research and Dialogue for Inclusive Policy-Making Processes”. The project, which lasts for four years, is supported by a grant from EuropeAid.
Within the project, IAI was selected to lead a Working Package on the role of youth activism in the South and East Mediterranean in the aftermath of the Arab Spring. The activities envisaged by the Working Package include a Dialogue Workshop on "Understanding Youth-Related Activism in the South and East Mediterranean Countries” that was held in Beirut on 18 November 2015 at the premises of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon.
In 2019, IAI has co-led together with CIDOB another Working Package on the geopolitics and the power dynamics related to the control and use of infrastructes in the Middle East and North Africa (harbours, cyber infrastructures, oil and gas pipelines, airports and national airlines). The project kicked off during the June 2019 Annual Conference of the Network in Barcelona and included a dialogue Workshop organised in Rome at the beginning of December 2019. A Joint Policy Study on “Infrastructures and Power in the Middle East and North Africa: The Crossroads of Regional and Global Geopolitics” drawn up with input from external experts was finally published in Septemeber 2020.
