Transatlantic Security Symposium - 13. ed.

The occasion of the 160th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Italy and the United States of America is an opportunity to take stock of the rich history of the relationship between the two countries as well as to assess the potential for continuous political, security and economic cooperation, both bilaterally and in larger frameworks such as NATO, the European Union and the United Nations. IAI has contributed to this effort with a special edition (and 13th overall)of its Transatlantic Symposium series, in which academics and experts from Italy and the United States have engaged in a conversation about the past, present and future of the US-Italian relationship.
The conference, A Lasting Bond. Revisiting & Reinvigorating Italy-US Relations 160 Years since their Inception, was held at Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) on 13 December 2021 at the presence of Italian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Marina Sereni and the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the US Embassy in Rome, Thomas Smitham, who delivered keynote speeches.

The Transatlantic Symposium 2021 was jointly organized by IAI and the MAECI with the support of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and the US Embassy to Italy.
