Transatlantic Symposium - 16. ed.
The Transatlantic Symposium, the annual closed-door forum among transatlantic experts and diplomats that IAI has been organising since 2008 in cooperation with the Analysis and Planning Unit of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Maeci), in 2025 took place as part of a larger project on “Derisking the value chains necessary for green and digital transitions: Italy’s action in the EU”.
The project aims to investigate the vulnerabilities of value chains supporting the green and digital transition in Italy and Europe and the legislative and policy actions to address them, as well as compare them with those adopted by the United States to explore synergies and opportunities for greater coordination.
The project pursues the following research and networking objectives: (i) identify critical issues and risk factors related to value chains needed to support and promote decarbonisation and technology development in Italy and the EU; (ii) analyse national and EU regulatory and policy frameworks for reducing vulnerabilities in critical minerals and semiconductor value chains and provide policy recommendations for better aligning regulations and policy with identified vulnerability reduction needs; (iii) compare national and EU measures with US measures with a view to identifying areas of convergence on which to build structured forms of transatlantic collaboration; (iv) promote transatlantic dialogue between European and American experts and officials from the foreign ministries of major European countries (starting, of course, with Italy), the US and the EU.
Invited to the Symposium, which was held on 9 May 2025 at the Maeci, were American experts as well as diplomats from Italy.
