An Italian-German Dialogue on Energy Security and Transition amid Russia’s War on Ukraine

24/10/2024, Residenza dell'Ambasciatore di Germania in Italia | ore 18:00

In this event, we will discuss the opportunities for a deeper Italian-German dialogue regarding the energy transition. At the beginning of the event, the key findings of the recent project, entitled “An Italian-German Dialogue on Energy Security and Transition amid Russia’s War on Ukraine”, on this issue will be presented. The project has been carried out by IAI with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.

Despite some differences, Italy and Germany share some important characteristics, their economies are deeply interlinked and face multiple challenges. The energy crisis has severely hit countries, companies and households. Governments have managed to cope with this unprecedented challenge by adjusting their energy supplies, reducing domestic consumption and accelerating the deployment of cleaner energy sources. Indeed, both Germany and Italy have preserved their long-term goals related to climate, which however require major measures in order to transform their economies and energy systems. Against this backdrop, an exchange of views and a coordinated response in tackling the challenges of energy security, competitiveness and sustainability is needed and may yield positive results for both countries and the European Union.

The speakers will discuss the main energy opportunities for deeper cooperation between Germany and Italy on energy transition, energy security and economic competitiveness.
