The Role of G7 in Promoting a Cooperation Framework for Artificial Intelligence: the Way Ahead

15/03/2024, Trento - h. 15:15

From Hiroshima to Trento, leading towards Ottawa - an informal dialogue with selected Italian private sector representatives, addressing the G7 Troika on its way towards the successful implementation of Italy's 2023 roadmap.

This side event brought together key players from the private sector to address the G7 Troika (Japan, Italy, and Canada) on their priorities, main action items, and potential bottlenecks towards the successful implementation of Italy's ambitious G7 Presidency roadmap in 2024.

In particular, the informal dialogue focused on how to reflect a multistakeholder view in the AI toolkit for AI in the public sector, that could help governments map risks and opportunities and support enabling environments for safe, secure, and trustworthy AI in the public sector. Moreover, private sector representatives were invited to provide feedback on the proposed Compendium of Digital Government Systems, which shed a spotlight on digital identity approaches throughout the G7 Membership.

Another crucial aspect of the discussion touched upon the Hiroshima Artificial Intelligence Process (HAIP), where G7 Troika and public sector representatives shared thoughts on how to take the greatest advantage of multistakeholder adherence to HAIP to boost its impact and nurture a common understanding of a voluntary monitoring process.

This meeting was a promising occasion to align among Troika Members and set upcoming milestones together. G7 Ministers from Japan and Canada were invited to listen to the discussions, guided by a moderator from IAI (?) and provide informal feedback as further food for thought on Italy's G7 Presidency deliverables. Meeting minutes were prepared and shared confidentially with the G7 Troika, while no formal statement was foreseen.
