EU-Turkish Economic Relations

A Global Turkey in Europe policy brief analyses EU-Turkey economic relations and EU-US negotiations for a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. While Turkey has expressed an interest in being part of the TTIP negotiations, Kamil Yilmaz argues that Ankara should concentrate on negotiating a free trade agreement with the United States while working with Europe to deepen the existing Customs Union. Formidable obstacles to this scenario remain however, with Turkey’s increasingly authoritarian politics cited as the foremost example.
