Building a Sustainable World Bank Group Strategy for Fragility, Conflict, and Violence

18/04/2025

The World Bank Group's FCV strategy, set to expire at the end of 2025, has guided efforts to address fragility, conflict, and violence through prevention, crisis engagement, recovery, and mitigation. Its implementation has contributed to stability in challenging settings such as Afghanistan, the DRC, Myanmar, the Sahel, and Yemen, aligning with the global Sustainable Development Goals. However, major US policy shifts in the last few months have shifted the FCV operating environment. As the WB/IMF Spring Meetings approach, the update of the FCV strategy is a moment to close some of the gaps in the existing approach and make the WBG’s work in these contexts more future-fit.
