GovSatCom feasibility study
Starting 1 July 2015, the Instituto Affari Internazionali will be involved in the GovSatCom feasibility study project. The project, which is financed by the European Defence Agency (EDA), aims at evaluating and assessing the feasibility and development of a cooperative governmental satellite communications (GovSatCom) programme. In December 2013, the European Council identified GovSatCom as one of four action priorities for the development of Europe’s military capabilities.
The 18-month feasibility study will be led by the French consulting firm Euroconsult, which will coordinate the work of the following partners: Airbus Defence & Space, CGI, Istituto Affari Internazionali, Hisdesat and SpaceTec Partners. The consortium’s study carried out under the EDA umbrella, will be coordinated with activities funded by the European Commission and the European Space Agency (ESA).
In this regard, the IAI will play a key role in Work Package 1 (WP1) “Refinement of IER & Development of GovSatCom Assessment Model”, mapping and assessing the satellite communication capabilities and needs of European military actors and Member States.
