Thibault Muzergues

Thibault Muzergues is an Associate Fellow at the Istituto Affari Internazionali since 2025. From 2011 to 2025, he worked for the International Republican Institute, working on transatlantic relations as well as.political parties in Europe and around the world. Prior to his work at IRI, Prior to his work at IRI, Thibault was for 5 years a fundraiser and direct marketing consultant to France’s then leading party UMP and Nicolas Sarkozy; in this position he pioneered online fundraising in the 2007 French presidential elections and introduced new marketing techniques in French politics, mostly inspired from the American marketing experience. He started his career in London, United Kingdom, where he served as advisor to the British Conservatives, both at regional and local levels.
Thibault is the author of two books with French and English versions: The Great Class Shift : How Four Social Tribes Are Redefining Western Politics (Routledge, 2019), and War in Europe? From Impossible War to Improbable Peace (Routledge, 2022) – the later was announcing the return of war in Europe. More recently he has also authored two books in French: Postpopulisme: la nouvelle vague qui va secouer l’Occident (Éditions de l’Observatoire, 2024) and La Droite Woke (Éditions de l’Observatoire, 2026).
Thibault is a regular contributor to France’s major newspapers (Le Monde, Le Figaro, Libération, L’Express, Le Point, etc.), as well as English (Foreign Affairs, War On The Rocks, the National Interest) and Italian-language media (Formiche, Il Foglio, adnkronos).
He holds an MSc in Russian and Post-Soviet Studies from the London School of Economics, and graduated from Sciences Po Paris’ Masters program summa cum laude. He tweets at @tmuzergues.
