Building Back Forward: the future of Italy’s development cooperation
The project aimed to raise awareness and promote a national debate on the importance of Italy’s development cooperation, in view of the OECD-DAC target to allocate 0.7% of GNI to ODA and in light of the new challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Activities consisted of research and dissemination.
A background report providing an overview of Italy’s development cooperation was first prepared for a closed-door meeting between institutional, political and civil society representatives in November 2022. The results of a public opinion survey on Italian citizens’ attitudes to ODA were then presented in a public event that discussed Italy’s 0.7% ODA/GNI commitment, in December 2022. In March 2023, a first IAI Commentary took stock of the 2023 Budget Law ODA allocations. In May 2023, on the heels of the G7 Leaders’ summit, a public event provided an opportunity for researchers, institutional representatives and civil society to discuss the most salient development issues on the G7 agenda. In June 2023, a second IAI Commentary recommended development agenda points for Italy’s 2024 G7 Presidency
