Cryptocurrencies: risks and opportunities for the international financial system and the challenge of global governance
The project, which started in January 2020 and ended in July 2021, culminated in the publication of the collected volume “The (Near) Future of CBDCs: Risks and Opportunities for the Global Economy and Society”. The volume, which was published by Peter Lang Publishing in April 2021, contains nine chapters by international experts and researchers from the IAI. The volume, which was presented in a meeting in Rome on 20 April 2021, offers multidisciplinary reflections on the economic, political and geo-strategic dimensions of central bank digital currencies, delving into geographical case studies - such as China, Africa and the European Union - and cross-cutting issues of primary relevance, including the effects on the financial system, banking regulations and privacy.
