The G7 Policy Roadmap on Artificial Intelligence
The Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), as co-chair of Think7 (T7) – the official engagement group of the Italian G7 presidency that brings together leading think tanks and research centres from around the world – has organised two events to present and discuss two papers aimed at analysing the challenges and opportunities stemming from the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on its impact on competition and privacy.
The first IAI policy paper, presented on 3 October 2024 during the event “Fostering AI Innovation and Competition. A G7 Policy Roadmap”, aimed to discuss how to promote innovation and competitiveness in AI. To this end, it questioned the role of national competition authorities, particularly in light of a series of related G7 events, namely: the Summit with Competition Authorities on 3-4 October, the Ministerial Meeting on Industry and Technological Innovation on 10 October, and the Ministerial Meeting on Technology and Digital on 15 October.
The second IAI paper, presented on 9 October 2024 at the event “Responsible AI Adoption: Protecting Privacy while Unlocking Innovation among the G7”, focused on the unprecedented challenge policy-makers face in balancing innovation and privacy, also during the G7 Data Protection Agencies Summit (10-11 October). During the event, policy-makers, experts and industry representatives discussed principles and practical approaches to protect privacy and promote transparency, while ensuring the necessary impetus for technological innovation.
