NATO at 70: Assessing its Past, Present and Future Role in Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Arms Control
2019 - 2021
The project has two main objectives:
- to increase the knowledge of the Italian next generation and civil society of the problems relating to arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament, with particular regard to the role of NATO;
- stimulate a debate between young people and experts in the sector on how to make NATO's role in promoting arms control more incisive, in line with Italy's interests.
In view of these objectives, the project foresees three different types of activities: 1. The drafting and publication of a volume that includes four research papers. These papers will provide the starting point for the other activities 2. A meeting dedicated to the next generation and young experts. This meeting aims at bringing them closer to the themes of arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament, and the strategy and role of NATO through an open discussion with the authors of the four papers. 3. A conference open to the public which sees the participation of high level officials and leading experts in the field.
