The Reform Treaty and the future of the European Union
Acting on indications from its honorary president, Senator Carlo Azeglio Ciampi,in 2007 the institute deliberated on the relaunching of the EU's institutional reform process and of Italy's role in this issue. To such purpose, a scientific committee composed of important exponents of Italy's academic, political and institutional world, elaborated a strategy proposal that was presented to parliament during a conference with the Chamber of Deputies and Senate Commission on Foreign Affairs and EU Policies. The project continued throughout 2008, with the aim to analyze the results of the Intergovernmental Conference in charge of elaborating a new project for the Reform Treaty and evaluating the impact on the functioning of the EU, especially in the fields of CFSP and CFDP. The research has also examined the ratification process of the new text in member states and its implications for Italy.
