European Think-Tanks Group (ETTG)
IAI is part of the European Think Tanks Group (ETTG) together with five other leading European international cooperation think tanks: the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM), the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the Elcano Royal Institute.
The work of the group is shaped by a common understanding of how positive policy change in the field of international development can be achieved in the EU through:
(1) high quality and independent research communicated in forms tailored to specific audiences and at important moments in the policy cycle; (2) research that disseminates proposals for change that respond to political priorities and are calibrated to the EU policy context; (3) a broad understanding at the various levels of the debate amongst all stakeholders involved in decision-making and dissemination processes; and (4) cross-national networks that extend the reach of research within Member States, create opportunities for routine interaction and informed policy debate, and opportunities for reflection among different actors.
The Group has launched the ETTG-Gates project supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The project aims to shape the overall European narrative on international development and improve EU collective action with regard to three core issues:
I. Strategic framework: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development;
II. EU financing instruments: negotiations on the EU’s Multi-Annual Financial Framework (2021-2027);
III. EU Partnerships with the Global South, such as the Post-Cotonou process.
In the framework of the collaboration with ETTG, IAI also worked with ECDPM and DIE on the research "The Future of European Development Cooperation: Bold proposals for reform and compelling political rationale" which ended in December 2020.
Funding: Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo
