Democratic control of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP)
As a follow-up to the seminar organized at the European Parliament in Brussels on November 15, 2010 in cooperation with the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), and the research work carried out during 2011, the IAI continuee to analyse the issue of democratic control of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) in 2011 as well. The analysis was conducted taking into consideration the most recent political developments, such as the termination of the Western European Union (WEU) and its Security and Defence Assembly (SEDA), as well as the debate regarding its substitution by the European Parliament or an ad hoc Interparliamentary Assembly. In addition, the project put forward proposals for creating mechanisms able to strengthen the democratic control of Europe’s foreign, security and defence policies.
