Editorial internship (tirocinio curricolare) 2023-24

The Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), based in Rome (Italy), is looking for an Intern to support the editorial team of its peer-reviewed English-language journal The International Spectator.

    Eligibility

    • The internship is open to Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, especially in the fields of international relations, political science, languages, arts and media studies, who must complete a tirocinio curricolare (unpaid internship) as part of their curriculum
    • Candidates must be based at a university that has a “convenzione” (Internship agreement) with the Istituto Affari Internazionali
    • Candidates must have excellent (C2 CEFR level) English writing and communication skills; Fluency or proficiency in Italian is a plus
    • An interest in international and current affairs is required
    • Familiarity with social media and online communication is a plus.


    Internship activities

    • Supporting the communication strategy for the journal
    • Helping manage the Blog for the Journal
    • Helping manage the Instagram account of the Journal
    • Performing social media analysis and drafting weekly reports
    • Drafting tweets and other content to be disseminated via the journal’s social media
    • Proofreading articles, newsletters and other journal-related content
    • Supporting the journal’s editors in managing The International Spectator
    • Other support tasks as needed


    Duration

    The internship consists of 300 hours of work, to be completed between September and December 2023 (Autumn term internship), January and April 2024 (Spring Term internship) or May and July 2024 (Summer term internship).

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a proofreading test and a Skype interview if not available to carry out an in-person interview. Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
     

    Terms & Conditions

    The position is unpaid.
    The selected candidate will be offered the opportunity to attend one of the training courses of the Institute free of charge. The chosen course must start within a year of the start of the internship. If the chosen course coincides in whole or in part with the internship, hours of attendance are not to be considered part of the internship.
    The internship may be carried out either on a remote working basis or in person. The intern has the option to work remotely, liaising with the journal’s editorial team via Zoom or other videoconferencing applications as appropriate.
