Europe’s energy heart beats on the shores of the Caspian Sea, thanks to Azerbaijan and its role as a key supplier to the European Union of oil and – in the future – gas. However, a stronger energy partnership is likely to coincide with greater negotiating power for Baku, which Brussels must take care to account for.
